Stroke is the leading cause of disability in the U.S. today, but many of the effects of stroke could be minimized if the condition can be identified and treated early. Currently, there are a number of stroke biomarkers and panels of biomarkers in development that are designed to help diagnose stroke at an early stage. During this informative program, Dr. Robert Christenson discusses how stroke is currently classified, diagnosed, and treated; the characteristics of an "ideal" biomarker or panel of biomarkers for ischemic stroke; what assays currently show promise as potential stroke biomarkers; and what obstacles must be overcome before these biomarkers can be used clinically.
